The Corporate Witch


I recently got my email fiasco figured out and recovered my password to Goodreads (yay!) and wrote my first review on the giveaway book I won! The book is The Corporate Witch by Amy Difar. Very short review to follow...

Mildred Poisonapple is a young witch from a traditional family trying to make her way in the corporate world. Her decision to work in the modern, corporate world, is a source of tension between Mildred and her grandmother, but its not the biggest stress in her life. When she runs into trouble with co-workers and her boss, toeing the line between her two worlds becomes nearly impossible.

One of my only problems with the book was how quickly Mildred and her love interest got serious, it seemed a bit rushed and forced. With that being said, I enjoyed the book. Although the pace was not as fast as I am used to, I finished the book quickly without losing interest. 

I do look forward to reading further works from Difar in the future.


This was my first attempt at writing a book review, and if I do say so myself, it was very blah. I bored myself writing it! Looks like I need to brush up on my skills a bit and not be so afraid to say what I really think about a book!



P.S. I've won two new books on Goodreads, The Life and Times of Rebecca Walker by Rachel Hanson and My Evangeline by Heidi Radford Legg. Once I receive these books I will share my reviews with you!

Pinteresting


Saw this cool little sculpture thingamajig on Pinterest today and I am dying to try and make one. Apparently it's made from old magazines rolled up then glued to a balloon. When it's dry you pop the balloon and voilĂ  you have your finished project. With my luck the balloon would pop before I was finished and then I'd just have a gluey mess! I'm thinking this will be an all day affair, I will post my finished project if and when I get around to it!

Goodreads

I decided to join the website Goodreads this week and boy am I happy that I did. They have so many cool functions on their site! My personal favorite is listing the books you've read or want to read because if you're like me, you have a ton of books you want to read and keeping track can be a pain! They also have book giveaways you can sign up for and I was pleasantly surprised when I checked my email today and realized I won a book! The book is The Corporate Witch by Amy Difar and I cannot wait to read it! Once I receive the book in the mail I will be posting a review here and on Goodreads! Who doesn't love free books??

The Pout-Pout Fish!


If you're looking for the cutest book ever to read to your kids (up to 8/9), The Pout-Pout Fish is definitely the book for you. I'm the nanny to a 6-year-old reluctant reader and she just loves this book. It's repetitive and a bit sing-songy, but tons of fun! There are a few big words in the book, but when I read to A I always explain what words mean if she doesn't know them so it also gives you a chance to teach your child something new. The illustrations are wonderfully done and the rhyme scheme is catchy! It's A's new bedtime favorite!

Lately I've been jotting down all of the silly book ideas that bounce around in my brain, and I think I've finally found one I'd like to explore further. I wish writing was as simple as Stephenie Meyer makes it seem, but I'm afraid my dreams are too abstract and nonsensical to ever become best sellers! Anyways, I like the idea of writing to music, because I feel it can help you create the right mood you want set in your story. The Book Fairy!

I was browsing Etsy last night and stumbled upon the cutest little print. I just had to share it! The shop is thelittlefox and they have tons of adorable prints like this one, including a lot of Alice in Wonderland (love love love) inspired things. The artist responded to my email promptly and was super friendly as well, which is always a plus :)

Favorite Fictional Couples ♥

FAVORITE COUPLES IN LITERATURE, MOVIES AND TELEVISION:



1. ALICE + UNCAS - LAST OF THE MOHICANS
I rarely say this, but I enjoyed the movie much more than the book considering the two are completely different from each other. I love how their romance was simply implied, it made it that much more interesting. The scene where she jumps after him gets me every time.


2. CLAIRE RANDALL + JAMIE FRASER
Jamie and Claire have a relationship that lasts through kidnappings, wars, imprisonment and centuries. Their story will make you pull out your hair in frustration and cry within pages of each other. Plus Jamie makes kilts sound extremely sexy.

3. ROSEMARIE HATHAWAY + DIMITRI BELIKOV - VAMPIRE ACADEMY
If I could bring one fictional man to life, Dimitri Belikov would be that man. My heart practically melted every time he called her Roza. I admit I read the whole series because I was so intrigued by these two and where their relationship would end up.


4. ANGELA CHASE + JORDAN CATALANO - MY SO CALLED LIFE
I have always loved these two. Jordan Catalano is the typical bad-boy with issues, but he's just so pretty and Angela is awkward to the point where she makes you squirm in your seat while watching the show, but together they are perfect.


5. BUFFY + ANGEL - BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
Buffy and Angel remind me a lot of Dimitri and Rose with the whole he's good, then bad, then she has to "kill" him then he is good again thing (wow what a mouthful), but obviously these two came first. Buffy was not the same for me once Angel left although her and Spike did steam it up a bit.


6. ELIZABETH BENNET + MR. DARCY - PRIDE AND PREJUDICE
If you don't know why these two are on this list...read the book!!!!!


7. MERCEDES THOMPSON + ADAM HAUPTMAN - MOON CALLED
Moon Called is the only the first book in this series, but Mercy and Adam's chemistry is undeniable from the start. Their bickering over her dilapidated Rabbit is pretty cute when you realize it's their kindergarten way of flirtation.


8. SOOKIE STACKHOUSE + JOHN QUINN - DEFINITELY DEAD (TRUE BLOOD BOOK #6)
Out of all of Sookie's men I really liked Quinn the best. He wasn't whiny like Bill and overzealous like Eric, he was just alluring from the beginning. I wish their relationship would have been developed further in the stories. 


I stopped at 8, because if I don't stop somewhere I could go on forever. Who are some of your favorite couples?
